Can Costa is a house of tradition in Pollença, a town in the beautiful north of Mallorca.
Indeed more known for its cultural than for its gastronomic meaning.
Miguel Costa i Llobera lived here in the last century, one of the most important poets of the island.
In older times the local cinema was located in the old walls, you can still see today the impressive
film projectors in the entrance.
When the customer has found his way in the entrance the walk up the stairs into the guest room is easy.
The hurdle to access the old townhouse is from outside. You won’t see what jewel hides in it. The owner tries to compensate this with a nice terrace outside and friendly decoration.
Even Can Costa shares the fate with so many restaurants in Pollença of many changes in the past years.
Since one year a Mallorquin took over the restaurant and we heard lots of good news.
We decided to check.
To anticipate: all in here is sincere, classy and on high level.
We were friendly seated. The wide room is shared through sofas in front of a chimney and also light white curtains. Now in May there is a comfortable temperature without any air condition.
White table scarfs and grey chair covers, soft light, in the background jazz music are completing the atmosphere. Only the black and grey pictures at the walls could be a bit more colourful.
The menu sounds exciting. Lots of fish and exceptionally combinations. Also small tapas to accompany only a glass of wine. The friendly and qualified waitress is asking us if we want bread and oil. We notice that as a special point of attention. They ask you before they charge it afterwards.
We ordered the five course tasting menue. Perfect choice. This is a poem!
The creations of the kitchen are inventive, works with contrasts and carries a very affectionately handwriting.
The wine list is a representative selection of Mallorquin wines and highlights from Spanish continent. The prices are from moderate up to high.
Accompanied by the warm manner of the waitress, supported by the owner himself and rounded out through a nice bottle of local wine this evening was a gastronomic highlight and evidence of great abilities.
Hopefully the reputation of Can Costa spreads out behind its famous walls.

tuna praline in black and white sesame, avocado with tomato
great ameuse bouche
poached egg upon truffled potato cream, salami, crisps
excellent the egg upon that tasty cream, the sausage gave a perfect contrast
scalopp gratinated with Mahon cheese, spinach leaves, pine nuts, raisins
a bit preparation of the spinach would have been better
roasted sea bass with truffeld carrots, small turret of potatoes and braised onions, package of mini asparagus closed with an onion slice
fine texture of the fish, the way of presenting the vegetables was extraordinary
braised saddle of Iberico pork, Parmentier potatoes, rosemary
this course seems a bit rustic, but the sauce is perfect and the braised meat as well
warm chocolate cake, pistachio ice cream, physalis, strawberries
exceptionally this cake with 70% chocolat and a soft center, symbiotic with the ice cream
